Just Another Old Wive’s Tale

You won't hit game if you can't hit paper.

Q: The other day at the range I was asked to sight-in a rifle for another guy who told me that he can’t hit paper targets very well, although he has no trouble killing game at nearly any range. That sounds like rubbish to me because I’ve never known a good target shooter who had trouble hitting a game animal in the field. What do you think?

are likely to be at any distance and at odd angles and likely to move any second. Obviously, if you can’t place your bullets on paper, you aren’t going to be much of a game shot either. Like you, I’ve never known a good target shooter who was a dismal failure in the field. So I think the guy who makes such statements is only kidding himself.
