A wild bull gored a hunter leaving the man with severe injuries to his buttocks and back during a hunting trip in the remote Numbulwar on the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The beast’s horn pierced the man’s buttock and impaled the hunter through his back.
Territory Duty Superintendent James O’Brien said the 26-year-old was attacked 77km from the Markalawa Station.
He said it took the hunter’s colleagues five and a half hours to drive him to medical treatment.
“One of the horns has gone in his buttock and up his back. He’s also got injuries to his arm as well,” he said.
“He’s been treated at the Numbulwar clinic at the moment but he will probably be flown out to Royal Darwin Hospital.”
Investigations are continuing.
I have been lucky to have hunted a lot of scrub bull and buffalo over the years. I have always found the scrub bulls to be far more unpredictable and aggressive than the buffalo.
With more and more hunters taking on these bovines some armed with bows. I am surprised that this is not a more regular news article.
