The airlines: Which will carry hunting trophies – and which won’t

Choose your airline carefully when hunting overseas – not all will bring your trophies home

The hunting trophies that a mate and I took on a 2014 trip to Zimbabwe recently arrived home safe and sound, much to our great relief.¬†During the course of our communications with our very helpful freight forwarder in South Africa, she happened to send us a spreadsheet detailing the policies of the various airlines with regards to the carriage of hunting trophies. I found it a very interesting list and reproduce it here because I thought readers might also like to be informed about the policies of the different airlines. I certainly didn’t realise that so many arilines have a complete ban on the carriage of hunting trophies of any kind – not just lions, elephanst and rhinos. And most, you’ll see. have at least a partial ban in place. It might pay to keep this in mind when planning you next overseas hunting adventure. You can see the spreadsheet HERE.

Our freight forwarder also told us that from early November our own airline, Qantas, are charging full TACT freight rates for hunting trophies, effectively doublling the freight cost.
