On this 1 degree Celsius morning, the Ridgeline Wapiti camouflage clothing has me nice and comfortable while the Steiner Cobra 10×42 binoculars soon locate a group of billy goats in the distance. With the wind direction noted the stalk begins. My endeavour is to get as close as possible to a billy and arrow him with the G5 Quest bow.
Firstly an uphill climb is negotiated, then I make my way through some heavily timbered country. Some younger goats are by-passed and soon I am assessing the billies.
Before moving on I check the wind direction again and negotiate another gully. Getting myself slightly above a nice billy it is time to sit and wait as there are more goats amongst the group.
The billy moves further below me and to the left out of sight. I hold my position as there are many eyes to spot me. If I move, the stalk would be over.
Soon horns are spotted climbing up towards my position. It’s not the big billy but still a good goat.
The bow is at full draw and an arrow is sent to his vitals as he faces side on. The arrow passes through the billy; he scampers 50 yards into some bushes and sits down.
Giving the billy time to expire I then cautiously stalk to his location and at 10 paces arrow him through the heart. He is now done for. The bigger billy, if located again, will be hunted and stalked another time.
