In BIG NEWS from the SSAA SHOT Show in Melbourne, Lithgow Arms has backed up their excellent Crossover rimfire line with the new Crossover centrefire rifles. I got to play with them and talk to all the Lithgow Arms staff at the show and I was nearly salivating. While still in extensive trial and development stage, they expect production models will be available around the end of the year.
My impressions? Apart from the distinctive Crossover stock styling, I though they were like a beefed-up Tikka T3 in external appearance, apart from the distinctive Crossover-pattern stock. But that is where the similarity ends. The bolt is a three-lug front locker that turns into recesses in a collar pressed between the receiver and barrel. External metal parts are Cerakoted, its external polymer mags are single-tack and feed beautifully in an action that works very smoothly. Like the Tikka, all chamberings (.223, .243 and .308) are housed in a long action, which suggest .270 and .30-06 offerings in future, perhaps. The trigger on the sample was good and adjustable from around 0.6kg to over 2kg. With an integral Picatinny rail and a hammer-forged Black mountain barrel made from the same steel formula as Steyr rifles, not many shooters out there will ever wear out their barrels. Stock choices are synthetic, laminated and walnut.
