Snap Shots: Feral Cats The Biggest Threat To Native Species

Feral cats: public enemy number 1

First up we have an article from the Canberra Times telling us what most hunters know already: that feral cats are devouring our native wildlife. Dr John Woinarski, of Charles Darwin University, says “for land mammals in particular, predation by feral cats is the principal factor contributing to decline”. Yet still some cat lovers won’t accept the facts.

Brisbane deer

Next we have a report from Brisbane that deer are becoming an increasing problem in that city’s suburbs. According to the Courier Mail, deer have been sighted in front yards and on suburban streets – and environmentalists want them gone.

NZ poaching dangers

In this piece from across The Ditch, Radio NZ talks about the Kiwi Police becoming increasingly worried that poachers are putting lives at risk. O’Farrell v Borsak

Barry O’Farrell. Remember him? The disgraced former NSW Premier popped his head up this week to launch an extraordinary personal attack on Shooters and Fishers MP Robert Borsak. The Sydney Morning Herald report is worth a read if only because it reveals the deep-seated anti-hunting bigotry that Borsak was up against when try to deal wth O’Farrell.
