Two Kiwi hunters killed on same day
In terrible, tragic news from New Zealand this week we heard that two hunters were killed in unrelated shooting accidents on the same day last week. According to reports in the New Zealand Herald and on the Stuff.co.nz website, a 15-year old boy died last Sunday morning when his shotgun accidentally discharged while duck hunting. Later in the day a 21-year-old man died when his rifle discharged as he crossed a fence. NZ Police have urged hunters not be complacent about firearms safety.
Victorian hunter shot in leg
In relatively better but still terrible news, a Victorian hunter is in a serious but stable condition after being shot in the leg. According to The Age, the 19-year-old man was shot when a rifle discharged while he was deer hunting near Mount Buller. Guys and girls, we have to be so careful out there!
RSPCA inquiry to go ahead in WA
In other news the parliamentary inquiry into the RSPCA in Western Australia will go ahead, despite protestations from Labor and The Greens, according to this report from the ABC. The inquiry was proposed by Rick Mazza from the Shooters and Fishers Party, who says there are concerns about how the RSPCA has used Government funds.
Aussies nabbed in internationl illegal gun bust
Four Australians are amongst 21 peple arrested during an international operation aimed at busting an illegal on-line gun racket. According to News.com.au, those charged either bought or attempted to buy illegal guns on-line.
Dead snake gets last laugh as prank backfires
Police in Kununurra are at a loss to explain why a local man put his finger in a dead snake’s mouth after he had been using it to scare shoppers at a supermarket. According to this article in The West Australan, the snake’s fangs punctured the man’s finger and he ended up with an embarassing trip to hospital with the Police.
