Lewis Morgan was killed in a spotlighting accident in New South Wales.

Tributes Flow For Teenager Killed in Spotlighting Accident

Tributes have flowed for 18-year-old Lewis Morgan as his devastated family and friends come to grips with his tragic death.

The Colbinabbin teenager was killed while spotlighting on a private property at Balranald in New South Wales last week.

Lewis, who was riding in the back of a Toyota Land Cruiser was thrown from the vehicle when the 22-year-old driver swerved to chase a kangaroo about 10.30pm on July 25.

According to a report in the Bendigo Advertiser, Lewis was today remembered as well-liked teenager, who was carefree and always wore a “cheesy grin”.

Lewis’ second cousin, Phil Morgan, said the teenager was working as an apprentice engineer in Elmore but living with his parents at their Colbinabbin home.

Lewis is survived by his parents Peter and Megan, and five brothers Charles, Paul, Patrick, Jeremy and Jackson.

Mr Morgan said Lewis would be sadly missed.

“He was one of those blokes everyone liked. Nothing worried him – he was carefree,” he said.

“They are a really strong family. He was a real good kid and it’s an absolute tragedy what has happened.”

Lewis was a member of the Colbinabbin Football Club under-17 team premiership team which won the Heathcote and District Football League grand final last year.

“It was the first time we had ever won an under-17 grand final which makes it pretty special,” Mr Morgan said.

“And the fact that Lewis (played alongside) his younger brother Jeremy makes it even more unique.”

Colbinabbin Football Club president Tait Hamilton said the tragedy would rock the entire Heathcote and District Football League.

He said the Morgan family had lived in the area for many years and was well-known within the community.

“The community will be hit really hard by this accident. It will be a long road ahead. It’s a tragedy,” he said.

Kelsey Hageman wrote on Facebook she would miss Lewis’ grin and laugh, while Debbie Tainton wrote her heart went out to the Morgan family.

Police have prepared a report for the coroner.
