A hunter was in for a surprise this week when he bagged a pregnant feral hog: a piglet with way too many legs.
Jesse Garcia, 21, of Garrison killed the wild sow early Tuesday morning and found one of the piglet fetuses had one head, two torsos and eight legs.
His Facebook video of the piglet has gone viral, racking up 3 million views and almost 2,000 shares.
As Garcia and his friends were leaving the woods, one of their hunting dogs “went crazy” and found the pregnant hog, Garcia said.
“The people who own the place want the hogs killed,” Garcia said. “It messes with the land and livestock.”
After killing the sow with a knife, the hunters realized it was pregnant and tried to save the piglets, but they were dormant. When they were skinning the pig and removing the eight piglets, Garcia realized the last piglet of the bunch looked like two female piglets “stuck by the head.”
“It was something to experience, and there was a blessing to it,” Garcia said. “I got some rude comments, but they weren’t raised the way we were.”
“It’s hard to want to hunt at night knowing you have work in the morning, but tonight was definitely something not only to remember but to experience as well,” Garcia wrote in a Facebook post.
Wild hogs have been a problem in Texas — so much so that last month the state approved using poisoned bait to kill them, though that plan is on hold now.
Garcia has received offers of several hundred dollars for the piglet, but for now he’s keeping it in the freezer.
“For the right amount of money, anything’s for sale,” Garcia said. “We’ve never seen anything like it.”
