It was out 2nd trip out west to Moonie for the year and this time there were only 4 of us going which were Dad Will, me and our mate Mic. We left at about midday and arrived at about 2am so we quickly unpacked and hit the swags for the night. The next thing we knew it was morning and we had to go to Goondiwindi to pick up out new buggy as and today Mic was bringing his Yamaha Ryno out as well which was he new pig rig. By the time we got back from Goondiwindi Mic had arrived and unpacked so it was time to go out for a late afternoon hunt and we were all as keen as anything to check out how much puke was about. First we decided to check out the paddock next to the house because when we got there our dog Spuddie a cattle x was showing strong signs that there were pigs in that paddock. So as we got down the paddock through the long grass and across some timberland and dad and I had seen a mob of about 7 pigs so we hit the throttle and before we knew it we were cutting these pigs of at the fence line so we let spuddie go and he went for a nice big black and white boar that he managed to lug up quiet easily so I jumped off the back of the quad and straight under the fence to grab the boar and by the time I had done all this Mic and Will had already cleared the fence and had come over to give me a hand so we got rid of the boar and chased on after the rest and within the next five minutes we had nailed another few good pigs. It was starting to get late so the old fellas decided that it was time to go and blow some froth of a couple cold ones and grab some dinner from the pub. The next day we had caught a couple of good pigs in the lime bush and Brigalow but we were having more success during the late afternoons and late at night catching mob my mob out on the wheat stubble. It was about 5pm and we were doing a couple of laps around some stubble when I spotted a nice mob about 400 metres out in the paddock so we checked it out through the scope and then we hit em up running every pig in the mob over and killing all of them except this nice big black and white boar so after we chased the rest down we got up it and went back to where we had left the boar and it was still there when we got back and Mic went to stick it but it had a go at him so he decided to hop back into the ute while my brother shot it this pig would have averaged out to about 70 to 80 kilos. This afternoon was starting to shape up nicely because after getting about six in the ute it was about 12 in the morning and there was a nice boar and a sow walking off the stubble so we uped it in the ute and ended up losing the boar but going after the sow it was a good chase under a fence and through some timberland and spud ended pulling it up in some lime bush about 50 metres from the fence but this one was an effort cause Mic was the first one there and he didn’t have a knife on him but luckily shortly after Mic had grabbed hold of the pig will and I were there handing the sticker to Mic so we could hurry up and get a few pictures before we went home. It was a good trip but a short one at about 4 days and our total number of pigs was 28 to end the trip.

And just a tip if you are hunting in stubble paddocks late at night you dont ever let your dad or his mate get a beer from the eski or stand around and have a chat for ten min in every paddock because it scents up the area and the pigs smell that and assosiate it with danger and wont come back for a couple of day or so
